To date CPI Ltd have successfully sourced funding to transform a piece of waste land that was a swamp and prone to flooding and was also used as an illegal dump along the N15 approach to Castlefinn into a Community Resource / Sports and Enterprise complex that includes; a Health centre, Childcare facilities, Enterprise/Incubator units, a Multipurpose hall catering for indoor sports and recreation, a Computer suite, Conference facilities, a Recreation park, 20 Community allotments, a History/Heritage Park and the home of The Northwest Garden Show since 2010.
The Northwest Garden Show
In 2010 the CPI Committee created the Northwest Garden Show to ensure the complex became self-sufficient in the future and to ensure that it could survive without the need for Government grant aid and continue to deliver the range of services and facilities its currently provides. In its inaugural year, the Show attracted over 7,000 visitors and this has grown to over 21,000 visitors and over 150 exhibitors attending the third annual Show in 2012.
The Irish American Garden
In 2012 the CPI committee gathered with the intention of creating a permanent attraction on their grounds, that could be enjoyed by locals and visitors, all year round. Something that would not only bring sustained economic and cultural benefit to the locality, but also, leave a long standing legacy for the CPI for generations to come.
After much discussion by the committee and consultation with other 3rd parties, it was decided to create a traditional Irish stone walled garden that symbolised the long lasting close relationship between Ireland and the United States of America. A tribute to the many Irish who emigrated to the US from the early 1700’s until the present day and the pivotal role of the US in the Irish peace process. Together, this resulted in the creation of the Whitehouse Peace Garden, Castlefinn, Co. Donegal.
The Garden will be become a venue for cultural events and ceremonies and a place to relax and enjoy for both the local community and tourists alike. It will act as a constant reminder of our own heritage and of the local links with the United States of America and its people past and present.
